SELF CARE WFH

We’re in an interesting time as humans, we’re being forced to digitally connect more than ever (strange as we’ve been heads down walking around for a while now..). As a people manager, this is a new concept for me — managing a remote team of 9. I am being forced out of my comfort zone (as I’m sure everyone is). so i’m going back to my roots: self care your work week.

I asked myself: What can I do to inspire myself and my team to have productive days and not feel like they’re on an island? Here are some suggestions:

Set an intention for your week! This week my intention is to be more grounded. Go back to your intention every morning for the week. Journaling would be a good practice now as you can reflect on a day to day or weekly how you’re feeling with everything going on.

Move your body: Get outside and take a lap. If you forget to do this, schedule it into your cal. This would be a great time to Facetime a friend, check in, and see another’s face! If you prefer in-your-home workouts, here are a couple apps that are great for in-home workouts: Downward Dog App + Yoga focused Erin Gilmore Playbook

Connection with each other is key. I’m hosting Monday and Friday breakfast meetings that are not my normal meeting structure, more to catch up with the greater group, learn what others have been up to and interact virtually as a team. The KEY part to this is to ensure everyone has their camera on.

Meditate daily. Even if you only have 3 mins a day. Check in with yourself, drop in, and take some deep breaths. Calm (great for sleeping!) Insight Timer (personal favorite) Headspace

Desk setup suggestions: Buy a desk plant. Light a candle to start your day! Keep your self care goods close (facial mist, de-stress oil roller, hydration for your lips/hands!)

Plan your meals. Go to the store Sunday or (order groceries) and figure out what you will be eating and snacking on throughout the day.

Give yourself grace. Dog barking? Kid crying? Sig other walk in the room while you’re on a zoom meeting? GIVE YOURSELF GRACE!

We’re all working hard to manage the best we can.
Stay safe, call your mom/dad/sister/brother/grandparent, send love to your yoga/brow/pilates/hairs stylist/feel-good person (esp. if you’re not going right now) because we all need love and now more than ever we need empathy paired with it. Need someone to talk to? You can do this virtually (online therapy)
