Mindfulness, it's two things

I love how Tara Brach describes what mindfulness is, how it’s really this quality of presence that we can train. Isn’t that cool? That you don’t have to ebb and flow based on your thoughts or mood, that you can really show up in a different way?

“The first is awareness, a clear seeing of what is present here and now.

And the other is lovingkindness, a loving presence, not judging or trying to manipulate or evaluating, but a loving care from which, then, a wise response will be born.” -Tara Brach

Your micro mindfulness ritual

  1. Next time you have an uncomfortable feeling (you’re stressed, or you’re simply tired),accept the reality. Just allow yourself to see it for what it is and not try to change it. Sort of just honor it, it’s here., you’re human, it’s normal.

  2. Next, be kind to yourself. How would you treat a good friend who was feeling this way?

That’s it. Just keep repeating those two steps in your head until you practice enough to realize how quickly feelings change.

Meditation is how you build the mindfulness muscle
